Five More Organizations and Municipalities Join Coalition in Calling for Growing Greener Funding
Support to Restore Funding for Key State Environmental, Conservation and Recreation Program Continues to Grow

(HARRISBURG, PA) The Renew Growing Greener Coalition today announced that five more organizations and municipalities have joined in supporting the effort to restore state funding for Growing Greener.

Clean Air Council (Philadelphia) and Perkiomen Watershed Conservancy (Schwenksville) have signed the Coalition’s Statement of Support, which calls for the establishment of a dedicated and sustainable source of revenue to support the renewal of Growing Greener. They join more than 220 other organizations and groups that have also announced their support for renewing Growing Greener. …

Delaware River City Corporation (Philadelphia), Hay Creek Watershed Association (Geigertown), People’s Emergency Center (Philadelphia), and The W2Group (Philadelphia) have signed the Coalition’s Statement of Support, which calls for the establishment of a dedicated and sustainable source of revenue to support the renewal of Growing Greener. Renew Growing Greener Coalition Applauds Chester County for Resolution Calling for Renewal of State Funding to Protect Environment
Chester County Joins Nearly 90 Municipalities and Counties Urging Support for Growing Greener

(WEST CHESTER, PA) The Renew Growing Greener Coalition today applauded the Chester County Board of Commissioners for passing a resolution calling for the renewal of Growing Greener, the state’s primary source of funding to help local communities preserve open space and farmland, protect water quality, and enhance parks, trails and recreational opportunities.

“Funding for Growing Greener will dry up unless the state Legislature and Governor Corbett act now to renew it,” said Andrew Heath, Executive Director of the Renew Growing Greener Coalition.  “County Commissioners and Pennsylvanians from across the Commonwealth understand the incredible importance of renewing funding to the Environmental Stewardship Fund for Growing Greener in order to ensure families have access to clean drinking water, fresh air and green open spaces.”

“Growing Greener has provided tremendous support for preservation and conservation efforts throughout Chester County,” said Terence Farrell, chairman of the Chester County Board of Commissioners.  “The Commissioners urge the Governor and the Legislature to renew funding for Growing Greener. Without it, Chester County may not be the special place it is today.” …

Marguerite Quinn (R-Bucks) for proposing local impact fee legislation (HB1700) that includes funding for the state’s Growing Greener program through the Environmental Stewardship Fund.  Coalition Executive Director Andrew Heath issued the following statement:

“The Renew Growing Greener Coalition is pleased with legislation proposed by Representative Quinn that provides dedicated funding for the state’s Growing Greener program through the Environmental Stewardship Fund and also takes care of our conservation districts, which are our first line of defense for our waterways. …

State’s Largest Environmental Coalition Calls Amended Impact Fee Legislation
“Unfortunate Step Backward”
Coalition Urges Legislators toRestore Critical Funding to Protect Environment

(Harrisburg, PA) The Renew Growing Greener Coalition today expressed disappointment in amended legislation sponsored by Senate President Pro Tempore Joseph Scarnati (R-25) that calls for an impact fee on natural gas drilling, but fails to include funding for key programs to protect the environment.

Coalition Executive Director Andrew Heath issued the following statement:

“The amended Scarnati impact fee legislation is an unfortunate step backward. By removing critical funding for key environmental programs, the legislation leaves the future of our natural resources, community vitality, and economy at risk. …

“When Governor Ridge first signed Growing Greener into law in 1999, we all thought that it was a program with potential, but none of us could have imagined the impact this essential initiative has had over the past 12 years.  In 2005, Governor Rendell expanded this program by creating Growing Greener II, a bond initiative that infused an additional $625 million worth of investments over five years. …
